Copper & Canvas: On the Road, and Back Again
There’s something magical about packing up your art, your life, and your family into the car and heading somewhere new—even if it’s just for a day. Last Saturday, Perry and I loaded up the car with canvases and copper and drove from our home in Eau Claire to St. Paul, MN, where we set up shop at a charming little salon called Tease. Perry had his Signum Somnia booth, bursting with color and dreamscapes, and I brought my copper jewelry—earthy, bold, alive.
Our son, all of eight years old, came with us, wide-eyed and full of questions. He was such a trooper, helping us haul displays and unpack trays of metal and light. There’s something really beautiful about watching him witness this life we’re building—a creative hustle that’s messy and unpredictable and full of wonder.
While we were there, we did something totally new and unexpected: we had our auras photographed and read. It felt equal parts whimsical and spiritual, the kind of thing you don’t plan for but are so glad you did. My aura? A swirl of rainbow light—chaotic, colorful, a little bit of everything (which tracks, let’s be honest). Perry’s? Bold, deep red. Rooted. Intense. Passionate. That also tracks.
And now, the road leads back home. This Saturday, June 7th, we’ll be setting up again—this time in Eau Claire at the Artist Market, just as the early light settles in. 7:30am to 1pm. It's a little different when it’s your own town, your own community. The pace is still fast, the setup still sweaty, but the faces are familiar. I get to organize this event each week, and every time it reminds me why I love this life so much. It’s the connection. The creativity. The chance to help others share what they’ve made with their own hands and hearts.
Come say hi if you’re in town. Bring your coffee, bring your curiosity. There’s room here for all of it—copper, canvas, red auras, and rainbows.
